Management
The University of Zurich is an autonomous institution of the Canton of Zurich and is subject to public law. The executive committees ensure that the university is run smoothly and efficiently, safeguard academic freedom and take into account the interests of the community.

The Executive Board of the University is the executive and policy-making body at UZH. The Executive Board oversees all areas of the University and is responsible for all matters which are not assigned to other bodies (University Act §31).

Extended Executive Board of the University
The Extended Executive Board of the University is UZH's operational management body that oversees all areas of the university. It is responsible for all university matters which fall outside the scope of responsibility of the other bodies (University Act § 32).

Senate
The Senate applies to the Board of the University for the election and dismissal of the President and Vice Presidents. It can issue statements on matters relating to any area of the university (University law § 30).

Representatives from all four representative bodies can sit on university committees and commissions as voting members and exercise their co-determination rights at various levels. Representative body associations pool the interests of their members.
