A practical hint on using LORETA
In a given experiment, we NEVER use LORETA unless it is first validated. For instance, if we make an event related experiment, and a primary sensory pathway was used, then we first confirm that the primary cortices are active at some of the main ERP peaks. If this doesn't work, then there's some problem, and we do not perform any LORETA analysis. In eyes closed awake EEG experiments in controls, we first try to confirm that the alpha generators are located in occipito/parietal regions. If this doesn't work, then there's some problem, and we do not perform any LORETA analysis. The possible causes for bad results are numerous: artifacts, misplaced electrodes, etc.
