Inhalt

In the first two decades of the 21st century, China underwent a remarkable transformation, emerging with newfound power, capabilities, and the identity of a rising superpower. In his presentation, Professor Zheng Wang will explore the dynamic relationship between China's growing might and its shifting identity. Drawing insights from his forthcoming book, he will assess the rising superpower's quest for a new identity and its global and regional ramifications. How do nationalism and new identities shape China’s approach to Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the South China Sea – and how do they define the country’s relations with the United States? Make China Great Again: Dream, Nationalism, and New Identities, New York: Oxford University Press, forthcoming 2025.
