Meg Jing Zeng joins IKMZ as Professor of Computational Social and Communication Science

IKMZ welcomes Prof. Dr. Meg Jing Zeng! As of June 1st, 2024, she has joined the department as our new assistant professor for Computational Social and Communication Science.

Meg Jing Zeng is joining IKMZ from the University of Utrecht’s Department of Media and Culture Studies, where she was an assistant professor of Digital Methods and Critical Data Studies from 2022 to 2024. She received her MSc degree from the Oxford Internet Institute and holds a PhD from the Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC) at Queensland University of Technology.

Meg Jing Zeng’s research concerns the sociocultural implications of digital technologies and innovative computational methods. She has published key studies on misinformation, digital culture, and online activism, including the 2022 book “TikTok: Creativity and Culture in Short Video” (with Bondy Kaye and Patrik Wikström).

Meg Jing Zeng will strengthen IKMZ’s expertise in computational and digital methods, and will teach in both the department’s BA and MA courses.
