Below you will find important information regarding the BYOD online exams of the Assessment and Common Compulsory Program OEC and INF. Please read it carefully.

Functional Test

The functional test will take place remotely from 7 to 25 October 2024. Make sure that you install the SEB during this time and familiarize yourself with the functionalities within the functional test. The functional test can be repeated as often as needed.

Information on installation of the SEB can be found here. Once you have successfully installed the SEB, search for your exam on the exam overview page and click on "SEB-Funktionstest".

If you have several SEB exams, you only need to complete the functional test once. However, you are free to repeat the functional test several times.

Test Run

The test run will be held on-site at the Messe Oerlikon on 28 October 2024 between 18:00 and 20:00. You will need to bring your own laptop. There will be a joint test run for all asssessment-modules as well as the mandatory modules OEC and INF.

Attendance in the test run is mandatory. Students who have not attended the test run will not be admitted to the exam and fail the course. If you cannot attend the test run due to illness or accident, email support@oec.uzh.ch with a doctor's note.

Technical Infrastructure

To take the exam, you must use your own laptop (Windows or macOS) equipped with a current Chrome and Firefox browser version. The exam cannot be taken on tablets, nor with Linux.

To take the exam, you are required to install the Safe Exam Browser (SEB). The SEB temporarily puts your computer into a secured mode, which restricts access to unauthorized programs, files and websites. Detailed information on the Safe Exam Browser, its version and a link to download it will be provided at a later stage.

To log in with the SWITCH edu-ID, you need two-factor authentication (2FA). Make sure that you have set up 2FA using an authenticator app and not with SMS. Depending on the room, you may not be able to receive SMS.

You can find more information on the technical infrastructure, the exam software and how to proceed in case of technical problems on Infrastructure and Examination Software.

Monitoring in the SEB

The exam will be monitored in the Safe Exam Browser (SEB). Be sure to note the following:

  • It is mandatory that both the test run and the final exam are processed using the SEB. Otherwise, the exam will be considered invalid and a grade of 1 will be given.
  • You may not exit the SEB before the end of the exam. Exiting the SEB early will be considered exam cheating. Therefore, do not click the "Close Safe Exam Browser" button before the exam time is up.
