UZH External Reporting Office: Independent and confidential

Help UZH put an end to irregularities and misconduct

UZH gives everyone the opportunity to report irregularities and misconduct at UZH. Speaking up allows UZH to spot problems early on, put a stop to them and protect both the parties involved and UZH from harm. To make this possible, the External Reporting Office serves as an independent and confidential point of contact.

The office operates independently and does not take instructions from UZH. It is run by the law firm Pikó Uhl Rechtsanwälte AG.

The External Reporting Office complements the internal points of contact already available at UZH, which you may continue using as before.

What you can report

You can report any observed or suspected irregularities or misconduct connected to UZH.

In particular, this includes financial compliance violations (such as fraud, embezzlement, corruption or other financial irregularities), violations of procurement and contracting rules, and violations of personal integrity (such as sexual harassment, discrimination, bullying or abuse of power). You can also report breaches of research integrity, risks or harm to health, safety and the environment, and violations of data protection and information security.

Anonymous reports also possible

The person making the report decides whether to disclose their identity or remain anonymous. Please use the digital reporting system if you wish to make an anonymous report. It allows you to securely and anonymously remain in contact with the External Reporting Office, and the system makes it technically impossible to identify you.

File a report

Use the link below to file your report with the External Reporting Office via the digital reporting system.

You can also file your report by email, by phone, by letter or in person by appointment, using the contact details below:

Procedures of the External Reporting Office

The External Reporting Office sends confirmation once your report has arrived. It clarifies any questions or concerns you have about the report, records the facts as you describe them and explains what happens next. After that, the External Reporting Office forwards your report to the designated contact point in UZH’s Legal Services and Data Protection department; the relevant bodies at UZH then decide how to proceed. All plausible reports will receive an appropriate, fair and confidential investigation. Confirmed irregularities and misconduct will be addressed with appropriate measures or sanctions.

Confidentiality

Your report will be treated confidentially. This means the report is handled on a need-to-know basis: only those involved in processing it will have access. UZH may be required to disclose confidential information to a wider circle because of legal requirements, for procedural reasons or when there is imminent danger.

Protection for those who speak up

UZH will protect anyone who makes a report in good faith from retaliation to the fullest possible extent. In particular, UZH will protect them from being disadvantaged or discriminated against in their employment, studies or doctoral work or in their business relationship with UZH.
