UZH is actively committed to fostering respectful conduct at the university. If cases of sexual harassment or sexist behavior occur despite measures to prevent them and raise awareness of the issue, thecontact persons of the RSB Committee are on hand to provide advice and the investigating person for clarifications.
To mark the National Day Against Sexual Harassment in Higher Education 2024, the University of Zurich has decided to publish the activity reports of the committee overseeing the regulations to ensure protection against sexual harassment (RSB Committee). The activity reports for the years 2018 to 2022 can be found below.
The number of reported cases of sexual harassment has increased over the past few years. We met with professor of law Brigitte Tag to discuss why this is the case and what UZH is doing to combat sexual harassment.

The number of cases investigated by the RSB Committee between 2014 and 2023 is listed below. The annual case numbers do not reflect new reports received each year, but rather cases investigated by the RSB Committee in a given year. This may also include ongoing cases reported in previous years or cases with no connection to the university. It also includes reports in which the investigation determined that there were no instances of sexual harassment or sexist behavior, but rather other underlying issues (bullying, leadership conflict, etc.).
The tables below show the case-related work of the RSB Committee. All cases dealt with by the committee are included – from initial consultations with members of the university whose investigations revealed that they had been harassed outside the university to cases that spanned several years as a result of legal consequences. UZH is planning an investigation to find out whether cases of sexual harassment and sexist behavior have indeed increased at UZH or whether the increased number of cases is the result of a growing awareness of the issue.

Die Rubrik «Andere (universitäre Stellen oder nicht zuordenbar)» in der Statistik nach meldender Person ist eine Sammelrubrik. Darunter finden sich einerseits vereinzelte Fälle, die bei den Abteilungen Sicherheit und Umwelt sowie Recht und Datenschutz eingingen und dann von der Kommission RSB übernommen wurden (wo nötig mit Einverständnis der betroffenen Personen). Andererseits finden sich darin anonyme Meldungen oder solche von Personen ausserhalb der UZH.
Fälle, die bei der Abteilung Gleichstellung (AGl) eingingen, finden sich nicht in dieser Sammelrubrik, sondern wurden der ersten Meldeperson zugerechnet. Grund dafür ist, dass relativ viele Weiterleitungen von der AGl an die Kommission RSB erfolgten (selbstverständlich nur mit Einverständnis der meldenden Personen). Es ist davon auszugehen, dass für die meldenden Personen die beiden Stellen AGl und RSB wegen ihrer teilweisen personellen Verknüpfung als miteinander verbunden wahrgenommen werden.
