Commission UZH Interdisciplinary (UZH-i)
Department of German and Scandinavian Studies
The lecture series focuses on the connection between architecture and language in its many facets and manifestations. It focuses on a selection of fields in which, on the one hand, the significance of language for architecture and, on the other hand, the significance of architecture for language are particularly evident. Anyone who wants to create, sell or publicly use architecture also needs to talk about it. And whoever wants to talk in public always does so in an architecturally designed space and under the impression and conditions of this space. The lecture aims to put this interdependent relationship up for discussion in four thematic and discursive "fields". In addition to scientific lectures from various disciplines, contributions from different practical fields of designing, building, shaping and using spaces and communicating about architecture are planned.
The lecture is aimed at bachelor and master students; previous knowledge is not expected - except interest in the topic.
Every Thursday, 18.00 - 20.00; no lecture on 23.12.
3 ECTS credits in the form of essays in which students comment in depth on selected topics of the lecture series following one or more lectures depending on their interest (length 4-5 p., 13000 characters).
