Ethical and reflective prompt engineering for ChatGPT and Co. (10SMDSI_GPT)

Description

Our course delves into the current and future-relevant topic of AI and its diverse applications. Students will acquire a solid understanding of the fundamentals of AI algorithms and are familiarized with the ethical, societal and legal aspects of AI, addressing crucial topics such as data privacy, transparency, and responsibility in AI utilization. Practical examples will be provided to not only showcase how AI can be effectively applied in various disciplines but also providing opportunities for reflection and critical assessment of AI models.
The course takes place in person during four afternoons; lecturers from various departments at the UZH will lead through the course, providing use cases from their own field of studies. The content of the four afternoons is as follows:

20 March: Technical, ethical, societal and legal considerations;

27 March: AI to find literature + text generation;

10 April: Image generation & analysis;

17 April: AI and data.

Learning Objectives

After the course, students are able to

1) use appropriate prompts to generate the required information / outcome using different AI tools

2) assess the quality and truthfulness of AI-generated outcomes

3) use AI tools critically considering ethical and legal aspects

4) name different applications and practical examples where AI is helpful, and

5) name advantages and disadvantages of AI models and tools.
