Still leading in social sciences, business & economics and law: The University of Zurich has achieved its best-ever ranking in three out of four subjects in the 2019 Times Higher Education World University Ranking.
The university of Zurich has moved up the rankings in the life sciences (+7, from 66th to 59th), psychology (+6, from 101st to 95th), computer sciences (+5, from 88th to 83rd) and education (+6, from 92nd to 86th) compared to last year.
Drops came in the fields of clinical, pre-clinical & health (-10, from 73rd to 83rd), physical sciences (at least 24 positions, from 77th to 101-125), business & economics (-9, from 42nd to 51st), social sciences (-11, from 62nd to 73rd), law (-14, from 84th to 94th) and arts & humanities (-8, from 77th to 85th).

The subjects are evaluated based on five criteria: Teaching (weighting: 27.5 %), Research (weighting: 27.5 %), Citations (weighting: 35%), Industry Income (weighting: 2.5 %), International Outlook (weighting: 7.5 %). UZH ranks 90th in the overall Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2020. The ranking is based on a survey of highly respected academics who, on invitation by THE, are asked to identify the world’s best universities. ETH Zurich and EPFL Lausanne came in first and second among universities in Switzerland, while the University of Zurich ranks third ahead of the universities of Basel, Bern and Geneva.
