Taster Lectures
Getting a Taste of Uni Life
Sitting in on lectures gives you a feel for a study program and allows you to experience everyday student life for yourself. In a taster lecture you can:
- ... find out about the content of the study program.
- ... get a taste of day-to-day student life.
- ... talk to students and/or teaching staff.
- ... find out whether UZH and the subject are a good fit for you.
Sitting In On Lectures
Going with Friends
Maybe you have friends who are studying at UZH, and you could tag along with them to a lecture? Current students are always the best people to ask about which lectures are the most suitable to sit in on and can recommend people to contact from other study programs. And it’s less daunting if you can go along with another person or with a group of students.
Pairing Up with a Buddy
The UZHGYM buddy program, organized by the University of Zurich Student Association, allows you to explore the university and everyday life on campus with students from the subject you’re interested in. When you sign up to the program, you will be paired with a buddy who you can accompany to a lecture. You’ll find everything you need to know on the UZHGYM website (in German only):

Going Alone
Of course you can also go solo and sit in on lectures on your own. All lectures can be found in the online UZH Course Catalogue: click on Search, then select Search Study Programs in the menu, and in the field Search for Title, Description, enter the study program you’re interested in. Under the Modules tab you’ll see the associated modules.

Tips for choosing a lecture:
- When choosing a lecture to sit in on, we recommend going for a lecture at the Bachelor's level. The introductory lectures are your best option to get a general overview.
- Take a look at the website of the associated department. This will usually tell you which modules need to be completed at the beginning of a study program. The relevant department for each study program and other helpful information can be found on the page of the study program in question.
Bachelor’s Study Programs (search screen) - You can also ask the student advisory services at the associated faculty or association about which lectures are suitable to sit in on.

UZH for Students: List of Student Associations - You don’t need to register to sit in on lectures. If you want to sit in on seminars or practical courses (Übungen), however, you should email the teaching staff beforehand to check whether you can take part on the requested date. You’ll find the email address of the relevant instructor in the Course Catalogue.
- You shouldn’t choose the last lecture of the semester as exams often take place then.
