URPP LightChEC – Converting Solar Light into Chemical Energy

Lead: Faculty of Science
Start: January 2013
Running time: 12 years

Led by

Prof. Dr. Greta R. Patzke
Former Director (2013 to 2021): Prof. Dr. Roger Alberto

Converting solar light to chemical energy

The main objectives of the URPP Solar Light to Chemical Energy Conversion are to discover and develop new molecules, materials and processes for the direct storage of solar light energy in chemical bonds. The URPP Solar Light to Chemical Energy Conversion contributes to meeting the 21st century's demands for sustainable energy resources.

UZH News: “Making the catalysts work for us”

“We’ve made huge scientific strides. This will hopefully allow us to kick-start the long-awaited technology of producing energy from artificial photosynthesis,” says Greta Patzke, director of the University Research Priority Program LightChEC. The program’s broad approach has enabled it to position itself as a flagship project within the highly competitive international research landscape.
