Quality assurance and development system at UZH: education and teaching

Quality assurance and development for education and teaching not only require a well-established quality management system to be in place, but also that all stakeholders take ownership and actively participate in continuous improvement. UZH encourages innovation in teaching and promotes networking and exchange among its teaching staff. Furthermore, the University offers advisory services and continuing education courses on teaching and learning methods.

Quality Management Education and Teaching (QMSL)

UZH encourages innovation in teaching as well as networking and exchange among its teaching staff and offers advisory services and continuing education courses on teaching and learning methods. The quality of teaching and studying at UZH is evaluated on a regular basis and suitable measures are taken to continuously improve teaching quality. UZH aims to be inclusive and foster an open dialogue.

The core of the central quality assurance and development is the Quality Management Education and Teaching (QMSL), which was successfully accepted in 2022 as part of institutional accreditation. Central elements of the QMSL are:

  • the provision of a valid, consistent, and comparable data basis for empirically secured strategic quality decisions (course/module evaluations, Graduate Surveys, Monitoring Education and Teaching, Quality Index Education and Teaching)
  • coordinated processes of participatory quality reflection at all teaching-relevant levels (Quality Meetings, strategy dialogues)
  • economic quality documentation and reporting (Quality Meeting Summaries, Education Quality Reports, Report on strategic teaching development)
  • involvement of all stakeholders involved in teaching and learning
  • closed quality cycles with target and measure derivations
