Prof. Jordi Bascompte, Professor of Ecology, has been awarded the 2025 Cozzarelli Prize, an award that recognizes outstanding contributions to the scientific disciplines represented by the USA National Academy of Sciences (NAS).
Gabriela Schaepman-Strub – Member of Academia Europaea (15.4.2026)
Prof. Dr. Gabriela Schaepman-Strub, Professor of Earth System Science, has been elected as member of Academia Europaea, joining the Earth & Cosmic Sciences and Ecology.
Ueli Grossniklaus – Corresponding Member Australian Society of Plant Scientists (15.4.2026)
Prof. Ueli Grossniklaus, Professor of Plant Developmental Genetics, was appointed Corresponding Member of the Australian Society of Plant Scientists.
Philipp Homan and Wolfgang Omlor – 2026 Hirnliga Research Award (19 March 2026)
Philipp Homan and Wolfgang Omlor have been awarded the 2026 Hirnliga Research Award for their work in schizophrenia research.
Philipp Homan is a member of the medical faculty at UZH and deputy director of the University Hospital of Psychiatry (PUK), where he also serves as chief physician. Wolfgang Omlor is a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Psychiatric Research at UZH and an attending physician at PUK.
Benjamin Schlein – Steele Prize for Seminal Contribution to Research News (9 March 2026)
Prof. Dr. Benjamin Schlein, Professor of Applied Mathematics, together with László Erdős and Horng-Tzer Yau, received the 2026 Leroy P. Steele Prize for Seminal Contribution to Research.
Wiebke Bleidorn – Nutzendenbeirat GESIS (9 March 2026)
Prof. Dr. Wiebke Bleidorn, ordentliche Professorin für Differenzielle Psychologie und Diagnostik am Psychologischen Institut, wurde in den Nutzendenbeirat des GESIS – Leibniz-Institut für Sozialwissenschaften berufen.
Nina Hartrampf – Werner Preis 2026 (9 March 2026)
Nina Hartrampf, Professorin am Institut für Chemie, erhält den Werner Preis der Schweizerischen Chemischen Gesellschaft (SCG).
Sascha Schneider – Top 50 of most productive researchers in educational psychology (2 March 2026)
Prof. Sascha Schneider, Professor of Educational Technology, ranked 31st in the study “Identifying the 50 most productive researchers in top-tier, broad-scope educational psychology journals (2017–2022): a new perspective with a focus on publication trends and diversity.”
Ueli Möhrlen – Holm-Schneider Foundation Research Prize (11 February 2026)
Professor Ueli Möhrlen has been awarded the research prize by the Holm-Schneider Foundation for his pioneering work in refining prenatal surgery criteria.
Miaomiao Sun and Tobias Weiss – Pfizer Research Prize 2026 (29 January 2026)
Dr. Miaomiao Sun and PD Dr. Dr. Tobias Weiss, Department of Neurology, University of Zurich (UZH) and University Hospital Zurich (USZ), received a Pfizer Research Prize 2026 for their project “Macrophages as drug carriers for the treatment of glioblastoma.”
Bojana Müller-Durovic – Pfizer Research Prize 2026 (29 January 2026)
PD Dr. Dr. Bojana Müller-Durovic received a Pfizer Research Prize 2026 for a study published in the journal Science in which she demonstrated how the Epstein-Barr virus hijacks cellular metabolism to transform B cells.
At the time the research was conducted, Bojana Müller-Durovic was affiliated with the University of Basel and University Hospital Basel. She now works at University Hospital Zurich (USZ) in the Department of Rheumatology and as a privatdozent at the University of Zurich (UZH).
