Philipp Homan and Wolfgang Omlor – 2026 Hirnliga Research Award (19 March 2026)

Philipp Homan and Wolfgang Omlor have been awarded the 2026 Hirnliga Research Award for their work in schizophrenia research.

Philipp Homan is a member of the medical faculty at UZH and deputy director of the University Hospital of Psychiatry (PUK), where he also serves as chief physician. Wolfgang Omlor is a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Psychiatric Research at UZH and an attending physician at PUK.

Benjamin Schlein – Steele Prize for Seminal Contribution to Research News (9 March 2026)

Prof. Dr. Benjamin Schlein, Professor of Applied Mathematics, together with László Erdős and Horng-Tzer Yau, received the 2026 Leroy P. Steele Prize for Seminal Contribution to Research.

Miaomiao Sun and Tobias Weiss – Pfizer Research Prize 2026 (29 January 2026)

Dr. Miaomiao Sun and PD Dr. Dr. Tobias Weiss, Department of Neurology, University of Zurich (UZH) and University Hospital Zurich (USZ), received a Pfizer Research Prize 2026 for their project “Macrophages as drug carriers for the treatment of glioblastoma.”

Bojana Müller-Durovic – Pfizer Research Prize 2026 (29 January 2026)

PD Dr. Dr. Bojana Müller-Durovic received a Pfizer Research Prize 2026 for a study published in the journal Science in which she demonstrated how the Epstein-Barr virus hijacks cellular metabolism to transform B cells.

At the time the research was conducted, Bojana Müller-Durovic was affiliated with the University of Basel and University Hospital Basel. She now works at University Hospital Zurich (USZ) in the Department of Rheumatology and as a privatdozent at the University of Zurich (UZH).
