UZH has improved by seven positions in this year’s QS World University Rankings, coming in 69th among around 1,000 universities assessed. UZH thus remains the best-ranked comprehensive university in Switzerland.
UZH mainly improved its result in the area of citations per member of faculty. While in the previous year, 270,317 citations were counted, this year the QS World University Ranking lists a total of 376,475. UZH thus gained 79 positions for this indicator and climbed to 258th place.
In addition, UZH improved by seven positions when it comes to its ratio of international teaching staff. With a ranking of 48 in this area, UZH is among the 50 best universities worldwide. Another top 50 result was achieved for the indicator member of faculty/student ratio (49th).
In Switzerland, UZH came in third place, behind ETH Zurich and EPFL. This means UZH remains the best-ranked comprehensive university in Switzerland. Among universities in Europe, UZH gained two places and now ranks 20th.
The annual QS Rankings are based on an assessment of data collected for over 1000 universities worldwide. Reputational surveys among employers and academic peers account for a large part of the overall score. Another key factor is the evaluation of bibliometric data from the SCOPUS database.
The QS World University Rankings are composed of six indicators with different weightings: Academic Reputation (40%), Reputation among Employers (10%), Teaching Staff/Student Ratio (20%), Citations per Member of Teaching Staff (20%) as well as 5% each for International Teaching Staff Ratio and International Student Ratio.
