Why this program?

The Master's in Linguistics is a mono-master program with 120 ECTS credits. The centerpiece is its unique methodological training that provides students with state-of-the-art skills in collecting, processing, and analyzing digital linguistic data. The program further combines the study of individual languages with specific thematic areas of linguistics not found in other Master of Arts programs. It is possible, although not compulsory, to choose among four language-oriented and five thematic areas. For maximal flexibility, students can even opt for no specific focus area. The prerequisites being only 21 ECTS credits from the field of linguistics, the program is also accessible for students without an undergraduate degree in Linguistics. The Master's in Linguistics may be studied entirely in English (depending on the chosen focus area) and therefore explicitly addresses not only Swiss, but also international students.

What can I do with it later?

The methodological competences combined with the language-specific and thematic modules are an ideal preparation for a PhD in Linguistics or Computational Linguistics. The skills acquired in the program prepare you likewise for jobs in the corporate world. For instance, «Digital Linguistics» is aimed at students who are particularly interested in the technical possibilities of (computational) linguistics. Besides that, it is also possible to qualify for a teaching diploma in at least one school language.
