Why this program?

In the Master's degree program, students specialize in a current field of research. The focus lies on the master thesis that is carried out in one of the research groups and lasts about nine months. The department of physics has four main different areas of research:

  • Astrophysics and Cosmology
  • Particle Physics
  • Condensed Matter Physics
  • Bio- and Medical Physics

What can I do with it later?

The master in Physics qualifies graduates to go onto various career paths. For example:

  • as a researcher in public research centres, such as PSI or EMPA, as well as in research departments of industrial companies
  • as a PhD student at a university in physics or related fields such as computational sciences
  • as a teacher at high-schools or universities of applied sciences (a Master's degree together with an additional pedagogical qualification allows our graduates to teach at a high-school)
  • in the business world in management or consulting, in computer science or in technical development
